Pat's Inspiration Picks

There is one thing that we all have in common. That is...at some point in our life, we will face adversity. It's not a matter of if but...when.
In my 59 years on this earth, I have come to realize that the difference in our success or failure is not chance, but choice. Because when adversity strikes, it's not what happens that will determine our destiny; it's how we react to what happens. That's what this 3 minute inspirational movie is all about. So just sit back, turn up your speakers and enjoy.

THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM

To dream the impossible dream,  to fight the unbeatable foe,

to bear with unbearable sorrow,  to run where the brave dare not go...

To right the unrightable wrong, to love pure and chaste from afar,

to try when your arms are too weary to reach the unreachable star!

This is my quest -- to follow that star

no matter how hopeless, no matter how far --

To fight for the right without question or pause,

to be willing to march into hell for a heavenly cause!

And I know if I'll only be true to this glorious quest

that my heart will be peaceful and calm when I'm laid to my rest.

And the world will be better for this that one man, scorned and covered with scars,

still strove with his last ounce of courage

To reach the unreachable star!

Wow! I wonder just how many of us would "prejudge" and not even offer?!?! I promise you...this will start your 'outside the box' thinking!!!

Mary Kay Independent Senior Sales Director

Cybele Woon, M.D.

Mary Kay is SOOOOO much more than just selling lipstick...let me tell you why I got involved!

I have been an M.D. in practice for 10 years in the specialty of ophthalmology, subspecializing in medical retina and neuro-ophthalmology.

I was hooked on Mary Kay a few years ago when I realized I needed to address my fine lines and uneven skin - I had been using soap and water all my life. After reordering several times (makeup is a consumable product, a good thing if you are going to sell anything!) my girlfriend suggested I join for personal use. I laughed at the thought of being a Mary Kay consultant, but when I realized that there were no minimum requirements, I would get a 50% discount on my skin care, and that there were significant tax benefits to owning a home based business, I joined with the stipulation that I not have to do any parties or go to meetings.

I kept my consultant status a secret over the next six months but somehow still sold $3000 worth of product! I'm the mother that buys everything her kids sell for school fundraisers because she hates to sell! Employees used the lotions I put in the bathroom and bought. My partner ordered 35 gift baskets at Christmas. My girlfriends came over and ignored me and headed straight for my box of Mary Kay! I realized that everyone washes their face and that I was able to provide my girlfriends with the #1 product in the US for 12 years at a great price. How many times have you referred someone to a shoe store with a sale....did they pay you commission?? Getting people to use Mary Kay is the same thing....just turning them on to a fantastic deal and quality product!

During this time I had gone through a divorce and started a new medical practice. I was working part time with intentions of returning to full time when my practice was busy enough. Having half days free made me realize that there is more to life than work but I wanted to maintain my full time income level. I heard Linda McBroom, my national sales director, and for the first time actually listened to the business plan. I learned she had earned over $4.8 million dollars in her career and noticed how impossibly happy she was AND that she didn't have to pay malpractice insurance. I heard that I could have a career with this business, earn free cars, earn six figures, get dream vacations paid for by the company, and retire early with hundreds of thousands of dollars a year....from that moment on I was "Typhoid Mary Kay" spreading Mary Kay everywhere I went!

I earned my first car in four months, then became a director in September, six months after my A-Ha moment. I picked up the Grand Prix in December of 2004, earned my Fabulous 50's status in March ($30,000 minimum wholesale with at least 50 team members....$1000 bonus) and my Honor Society status in September 2005 ($60,000 minimum with 50 team members....$1000 bonus). I have an offspring director, Sha Ashley, a full time Ob-Gyn nurse who got laid off one month after achieving directorship - always have a back up plan ladies! My highest commission check for one month only six months after becoming a director was $5400! Do you know how long it took me to achieve that level of income as a physician?? And that income is rapidly increasing!

While I started this business for the retirement and income, I have since learned that this business changes women's lives. My favorite moments at all the meetings is to hear the stories of the women, how they got into Mary Kay, and how it has changed their lives. The same month that I got that $5400 check I had the great privilege of telling one of my team members, a single mom struggling on her own, that she was a red jacket, was on target for a free car, and was going to receive an extra $200 that month. That was better than the money! My inspiration is all the ladies I have met, the ladies I am leading, and the young women like Dacia Weigandt who is a national after only 3-4 years in the business! This business allows you to be whatever you want based on the amount of work you put into it.

I now get to see my kids when they come home from school several days a week (I'm practicing half days) have had lunch with my son at school, and actually get to volunteer. I plan to be able to retire completely from medicine in the next few years. I have huge dreams again and WILL be on a top director trip soon AND retire as a national sales director!

You hear a lot about pollution today, but the greatest pollution problem we face is that of negative thinking. "You can't. That won't work." All of these negatives are heard on radio and television and seen in the news daily, so throw out the words "I can't. It's impossible. I'll try," and "I hope." and substitute "I can. I will. I must."

The Seven Deadly Roadblocks to Success by Chris Widener

When traveling down the road it is always good to beware of roadblocks! You don't want to crash and burn do you? The same is true in our journey toward success. We need to beware of those things that will keep us from our destination!

What are the most common? Here they are:

1. Fear. Fear is one of the worst enemies of success. When fear wraps its tentacles around you and keeps you in bondage, you will never be able to reach for your dreams. We must confront our fears, see them for what they are, toss them to the side, and pursue our dreams with relentless passion. Conquering fear and stepping forward to reach new lands and new ideas is what makes success possible. What are you afraid of today? What fear must you conquer to be able to achieve your dream? When you realize what it is, take an action that is diametrically opposed to that which you fear. This will confront and conquer the fear by giving you the first step in the right direction.

2. Lethargy. Quite frankly, what keeps most people from success is that they simply don't have the energy, or make the energy, to do what it takes to move to the next level. They get to a point that is comfortable and then they settle in for a nice, life-long nap! Don't get lethargic; get going! Force yourself to wake up from the slumber and move!

3. Lack of perseverance. Often times the race is lost because the race is not finished. Success is often just around the sharpest corner or the steepest hill. Persevere. Keep going. One more hill. One more corner! In real estate they say the three most important things are "location, location, location." In success the three most important things are "perseverance, perseverance, perseverance."

4. Pessimism. The saying is that you can achieve what you believe. Ask yourself what kinds of beliefs you hold. Are you an optimist or a pessimist? If you don't believe that you can achieve than you won't. Your pessimism will prove you right every time. You will find that you subconsciously undermine yourself. Develop your optimism. Look for ways to believe that you can achieve success.

5. Not taking responsibility. I am the chaplain for the local police department, and the other day I went with an officer as he took two prisoners to court. Time after time the prisoners made excuses as to why they hadn't yet done what the judge had ordered (she didn't buy it, by the way). After dropping the prisoners off, I said to the officer that unsuccessful people and prisoners have the same bad habit - they won't accept responsibility for their lives. Bottom line is: You are responsible, whether or not you choose to admit it or accept it. But when you do accept that (and that is the moment when you become empowered), you are on the road to success!

6. Picking the wrong people to hang out with. We can easily become products of our environment. This is why it is essential to hang around people who will spur you on not hold you back! What about the people you have surrounded yourself with? Are they quality people who will encourage you and strengthen you in your quest for success? If not, move on!

7. No vision. Those who succeed always see their success months and years before they live it. They have the ability to look ahead, see the future, imagine the good that can and will come from their lives, families and work. To not have vision is a tremendous roadblock. Sit down and work on seeing the future - and make it good!

A NEW WAY OF THINKING

In Joel O’Steens today word, he said are you ready for increase? Are you ready to go to the next level, spiritually, physically, and emotionally? You can’t go to a new level with an old way of thinking. Your natural mind will cause you to have thoughts such as, “It’s not going to happen, I am not going to have a great year, or you know what the economy is like, or you’re never going to get well, you saw what the medical report said, etc.

Friends those are the old wineskins that you have to get rid of. This is a new season. What’s happened in the past is over and done. You may have been through some disappointments. That’s okay. God is still in control. It’s time to get a new vision. It’s time to open yourself to a new way of thinking so that you can receive all the blessings that are in store for you.

Choose to get rid of old wineskins, choose to release old thinking, old habits and anything that would keep you from being your best.
